Where To Go in Bordeaux...

Museums:

Bordeaux offers a few museums worth visiting:

About wine (https://www.museeduvinbordeaux.com/) and wine making around the world (https://www.laciteduvin.com/en)

For nature and science enthusiasts, of any age, don't miss the recently restored: https://www.museum-bordeaux.fr/en

The contemporary history museum is more appealing than its website: https://www.capc-bordeaux.fr/en/actuellement-en and the contrast between the ancient building and its content won't disappoint.

A bit out of the center, on the south side you have La Meca Bordeaux, an interesting space (also for photography): and on the north side the privately owned art and sea museum and the art space hosted in the iconic World War 2 submarine base.

Food, Drink & Guided Tours:

Take a food tour in Bordeaux, the Bassin d'Arcachon, or one of the wine-making regions like Saint-Émilion, Médoc, or Sauternes to discover the gastronomy of the southwest, its wines, and a bit of its history too! Indulge in sweet treats, foie gras, cheese, seafood, spices, charcuterie, red, white, sparkling wines, and more!

Explore the historical Capucine market, witness the 18th-century wood-fired bread oven still in use, marvel at the monumental gates of the medieval town, the bell tower, and enjoy a river walk with its water mirror. Discover the charm of oyster shacks, climb the highest sand dune in Europe, and uncover the hidden gems of medieval villages.

Experience wine-making in Sauternes, where the grapes are handpicked to produce the finest sweet wine that pairs perfectly with cheese, desserts, and foie gras. This liquid gold is one of theSimona treasures of the southwest. Enjoy wine tasting and much more!

Exploring Bordeaux & Beyond:

If you like a good walk, don't miss the Bordeaux bridge to bridge loop: a 7.5km/5 mile path across the first built bridge and the most recent one. The right bank of the river has a lot to offer: a botanical garden, restaurants and cafes with view on the city, among which Darwin, L'estecade and La Belle Saison. Only open in summer, a classic Guinguette with food, drinks and live music.

Change your point of view on the city and take a river cruise to observe Bordeaux from the Garonne, the river that made the fortune of the city or enjoy a sunset drink at one of the city roof tops.

Day trip to the seaside to (worth two days if you also like swimming!):

discover the highest sand dune in Europe.

visit the little oysters museum and then eat oysters from a cabane on the port in Gujan Mestras.

explore the various parts of Arcachon, a town for every season (the winter quarter with its historical villas, the summer part and its beach, the spring and autumn neighborhoods, with the historical water source Les Abatilles and the port)

take a boat ride across the basin to Cap Ferret and climb to the top of the lighthouse.

Plan a visit to Duras and its castle: transformed into a fortress by the brother of the French pope who never went to Rome.

Spend a day in one of the most beautiful villages in France: Aubeterre-sur-Dronne was built in a natural amphitheater created by the chalk cliffs which rise from the banks of the River Dronne. It is famous for its underground church and the its characteristic houses of white chalkstone with wooden balconies.

For geocaching lovers, of any age - but in particular for the younger ones, try Terra Aventura. There is a cache in La Roche Chalais as well, among other many locations all around New Aquitaine!
